Citi appoints Rajesh Mehta as regional head of treasury and trade solutions in Asia Pacific

He will report to Asia Pacific CEO Francisco Aristeguieta.

In a release, Citi announced the appointment of Rajesh Mehta as Regional Head of Treasury and Trade Solutions (TTS) for the Asia Pacific region. In this role, Mehta will oversee Citi’s TTS business which provides integrated cash management and trade finance services to multinational corporations, financial institutions and public sector organizations in Asia and across the globe in the over 100 countries Citi operates in.

Mehta will report to Asia Pacific CEO Francisco Aristeguieta and Global TTS Head Naveed Sultan, and will relocate from London to Hong Kong in September. He succeeds Amol Gupte, who has been appointed Head of ASEAN and Citi Country Officer for Singapore.

A 32-year Citi veteran, Mehta has held a range of senior roles in transaction banking and corporate banking in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), Latin America and Mexico. He was most recently the EMEA Head of Treasury and Trade Solutions, a role he has held since 2013, where he led the industry-leading Cash Management, Trade and Export Agency Finance (EAF) business in 54 countries with on-the-ground branch presence and for another 63 non-presence countries. During his tenure, the business has shown consistent growth, despite a challenging environment.

Mehta started his career in Asia, as a Citi Management Associate in India. He had also been Audit and Risk Review Head for Singapore / Indonesia, and served as both the Commercial Banking Products Head and Product Operations & Technology Head for Indonesia.

Asia Pacific CEO Francisco Aristeguieta said, “Rajesh brings to the role a wealth of experience across Citi’s businesses around the world and an understanding of the power of our network to meet our clients’ evolving needs in a fast-changing operating environment. His strong track record in building businesses and developing talent in complex geographies and environments will be instrumental to the continued growth of our TTS business in Asia.”

Global TTS Head Naveed Sultan commented, “Asia continues to be at the heart of economic growth, and is a key region for our TTS business. Rajesh’s cross- usiness and cross-geography experience will be invaluable as we continue to closely partner our global and Asian multinational clients on their growth journey.”

Mehta has a Master of Business Administration from the Indian Institute of Management and a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Economics from St. Stephen’ College, Delhi University.
